Miranda Beard of WDAM TV

Miranda is actively involved in the community on the local and state level. She serves as president of the Laurel School board, president of the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Association.  She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Mississippi School Board Association. Miranda served eight years as a commissioner for the Mississippi Employment Security Commission under Governor Kirk Fordice.  "My involvement in the community goes beyond the confines of the television station.  I want to be one of the movers and shakers to help build strong relationships and a better community.  For a long time, I have wanted to make a difference and getting involved in the community on the state and local levels allowed me the opportunity to do so."  In addition to working as a professional journalist and community advocate, Miranda enjoys public speaking, reading, teaching Sunday school and cooking up a feast for family and friends.​

Miranda Beard was born and raised in the small town of Humboldt, Tennessee, the oldest of three children. She attended the University of Mississippi where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism with emphasis in Public Relations. Miranda interned at WHBQ-TV in Memphis, Tennessee before joining the WDAM-TV news team in 1986 as a reporter. Eventually, she became a Bureau Chief and began anchoring the weekend news, producing and managing weekend assignments.
